How Should Your Heart Rate Appear When Exercising?

What is the ideal natural heart rate during workout? Naturally, each person’s experience varies depending on their age range and the level of physical demand of their workout regimen. For moderate-intensity activities, the optimal heart rate for most adults is typically between 50 and 69 percent of their maximal heart rate, measured in beats per minute.

Age times maximum heart rate = 220. For a 40-year-old, this means a maximum heart rate of 180 beats per minute (bpm); your workout target heart rate range should be between 90 and 126 bpm.
